| What matters is that Canadian Singer - Songwriter
Patsy Thompson has made her way to Texas, and American audiences will only
be the better for it.
Now they can experience her rich, moving voice, raw edged rough one moment, smooth and tender the next, always dear and soulful, in songs with catchy turns of phrases and such universal themes as love, big cars, Harleys, and dancing your socks off. Her sound is a textured blend of driving beat, growly blues with a bit of Canada’s airy accent, molded by the influence of musicians she loves: Bonnie Raitt, Patsy Cline, Janis Joplin, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, KoKo Taylor, Willie Nelson, and Bob Seger. She has the look of a hipper Joplin: finger rings, red leather, black lace, short skirts, décolletage. On stage, she is a powerhouse, passionate, purposeful, and always personal. Patsy has the University credentials of a lawyer, but she had to perform, she had to sing. While still in college, she and Wailin’ Walker and the House Rockers made Rock’n’Roll music and blues for biker dances and parties around British Columbia until Thompson felt the stage had gotten too small for both of them. She put together a band, The Patsy Thompson Band, and the lot went on the road. Across Canada they played, in good spots, and the no-so-good, but always having fun. And learning. And Crafting. Texans got their first taste of Patsy in 1992 when she played at the now famous South-By-Southwest Festival in Austin. |
